The AEMC is pleased to introduce two new senior advisers, Ben Hiron and Mitchell Shannon. Senior advisers hold important leadership positions within our organisation as they steer us through rule change projects and reviews.

We also have three new advisers. Oliver Tridgell, Edward Hawkins and Samuel Martin have successfully completed the 2019 AEMC graduate program – a valuable opportunity to gain experience in the energy sector in a policy-oriented and strategic environment.

Our 2020 graduate program is now open for applications. We are looking for graduates who are passionate about the energy sector and who have completed their tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline. Ben Hiron, Senior Adviser
Ben joined the AEMC in 2016 and has made an invaluable contribution to the AEMC’s reliability and security work program through his work on the Frequency control frameworks review, Review of the frequency operating standard and the three frequency rule change requests which are currently underway. Before joining the AEMC, Ben worked in engineering and economic modelling.

Mitchell Shannon, Senior Adviser
Mitchell joined the AEMC from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment. He is working on our demand response mechanism rule change requests and is project leader for the AEMC’s work to enhance the frameworks for system restart services. He has ably supported a number of key projects through Secretariat services for the Reliability Panel.

Oliver Tridgell, Adviser
Oliver has taken on a wide variety of work in his first year with the AEMC. He has contributed to our review of the system black event in South Australia, our 2019 annual market performance review and the increasing transparency of new projects rule change request. Oliver is leading our rule change project Transparency of unserved energy calculation.

Edward Hawkins, Adviser
Edward’s work to date has largely focussed on system strength and he has made key contributions to several projects. These include the investigation into system strength review and rule change requests on primary frequency response. He has also recently taken on the role of Reliability Panel Secretariat.

Samuel Martin, Adviser
Since joining the AEMC, Samuel has worked in our Retail and Wholesale Markets team, contributing to the 2019 and 2020 retail energy competition reviews, the review of the SA system black event and the rule change requests to enhance the frameworks for system restart and restoration services. He has led the rule change requests Application of compensation in relation to AEMO interventions and Monitoring and reporting on frequency confrol framework. He is also assisting the Commission Secretariat with critical organisational responsibilities.
