The AEMC today published an information sheet on the proposed scope and approach for our 2019 review of the state of competition in retail electricity and gas markets in South Australia, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.
This annual review looks at how energy retail competition is evolving and provides an overview of the current state and future development of retail competition across the national electricity market. The focus is on small customers, which includes residential and small business consumers.
The review will be undertaken in accordance with terms of reference from the COAG Energy Council and will consider:
- the current structure of retail energy markets
- retailer behaviour and consumer engagement
- the overall performance of retail energy markets.
The Commission’s final report is due to be published in mid-2019.
