The Australian Energy Market Commission invites feedback on proposals for non-controversial changes to definitions in the National Electricity Rules.
We plan to consider the Simplification of NER definitions rule changes under an expedited process.
Submitted by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and by Dr Kerry Schott AO of the Energy Security Board, these two rules propose non-controversial changes to definitions in the National Electricity Rules in order to clarify and amend some definitions.
The changes proposed by AEMO seek to remove redundant terms, amend terms with errors or inconsistencies, and consolidate terms that are not streamlined.
These proposed changes can have the benefit of improving interpretation of the rules, especially for better access by removing unnecessary terms and correcting definitions uses.
Similarly, the changes proposed by Dr Kerry Schott AO seek to simplify the rules and remove inconsistencies by amending a number of definitions in the rules to simply reference the definition in the National Electricity Law.
The AEMC invites stakeholders to make a submission on the proposed changes, and this expedited rule change process, with submissions closing 15 October 2020. Written requests objecting to use the expedited process need to be received by 1 October 2020.
