The AEMC is extending the date for publishing a final rule determination on the COAG Energy Council’s Transmission connection and planning arrangements rule change request until 23 May 2017.

The AEMC published a draft determination on the rule change request in November 2016, and a supplementary consultation paper on proposed savings and transitional provisions in January 2017. The draft determination sets out significant changes to the arrangements by which parties connect to the transmission network, and changes to enhance how transmission network businesses plan their networks.

An extension is needed to consider the complex issues raised in stakeholder submissions around the connections aspects of the draft rule, most notably the arrangements for identified user shared assets. It will take time to address the issues that have been raised so that the final rule is robust, clear and workable, and delivers outcomes that are in the long-term interests of consumers.

A final rule determination will now be published on 23 May 2017.
