The COAG Energy Council’s Gas Market Reform Group is calling for stakeholder feedback on changes to the national gas law, regulations and rules, and the introduction of a number of new instruments, to deliver the AEMC’s reforms to pipeline capacity trading.
The reforms, based on recommendations in the AEMC’s east coast gas review, will make it easier and cheaper to move gas around the system and help keep gas and electricity prices as low as possible.
Information about how stakeholders can be involved is available on the Gas Market Reform Group’s website.
The AEMC’s plan to redesign gas markets includes:
- introducing new ways to trade unused pipeline capacity
- improving wholesale gas markets to facilitate trade at different locations
- requiring more and better information so buyers and sellers can make informed decisions.
