The AEMC today published a consultation paper to facilitate stakeholder engagement on a rule change request from the Standing Council on Energy and Resources. The request seeks to implement arrangements that would promote competition in the provision of metering and related services in the National Electricity Market.

The rule change request proposes changes to the National Electricity Rules and National Energy Retail Rules to establish a competitive regime for investment in the infrastructure that enables consumer choice and market and system benefits over the long term.

The rule change request forms part of SCER’s broader energy market agenda, which includes implementation of a number of reforms recommended by the AEMC in the Power of Choice review.

Stakeholders are encouraged to provide submissions to the consultation paper by 29 May 2014.
