The AEMC has made a final rule that aligns AEMO’s periodic review of market parameters for the gas short term trading market (STTM) with the Reliability Panel’s Review of the reliability standard and settings in the national electricity market (NEM).
The increased interconnection of gas and electricity markets is a key driver for this rule change. Parameters in gas markets are best analysed taking into account current developments in other related markets including the national electricity market (NEM).
The final rule requires AEMO to complete:
- the current STTM parameter review by 30 April 2018
- subsequent STTM parameter reviews no later than six months after the completion of each NEM reliability standard and settings review.
The rule change is expected to promote the provision of accurate market signals to STTM participants, and reduce AEMO’s administrative burden.
The rule starts today.
