The AEMC held a stakeholder briefing on Monday 1 June on a rule change proposal from the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) to allow retailers to defer the payment of network charges for customers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic for six months.

More than 80 stakeholders attended the briefing, where the AEMC explained how it is considering the issues raised in the rule change proposal. The AEMC wants feedback on the financial impacts, design and implementation of the proposed deferral mechanism and will weigh up the evidence gathered as part of the rule change process. Stakeholders can make formal submissions by 25 June.

A webcast of the briefing and a copy of the slide deck presented are now available. Anyone who would like to meet with us to discuss their submission or issues relating to the rule change process can contact Mitch Shannon or Ben Davis.
