The Chairman of the Australian Energy Market Commission, Mr John Pierce, is pleased to announce Dr Brian Spalding’s reappointment as an AEMC Commissioner. Dr Spalding’s reappointment was made by the Governor of South Australia following his nomination by the Commonwealth.
The Commission comprises one full-time Chairman and two part-time Commissioners. In accordance with the provisions of the Australian Energy Market Commission Establishment Act 2004 (South Australia), two Commissioners are appointed following nomination for appointment by the participating State and Territory jurisdictions and one is appointed following nomination for appointment by the Commonwealth.
Dr Spalding is an independent member of the Energy Saving Scheme Committee of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal. He was formerly Chief Executive Officer of the National Electricity Market Management Company with responsibility for the National Electricity Market and power system for south-eastern Australia; and then Executive General Manager Operations of the Australian Energy Market Operator. He holds a Degree in Science, an Honours Degree in Engineering (University Medal) and is a Doctor of Philosophy in Power System Analysis from the University of New South Wales.
