The Australian Energy Market Commission was delighted to last month welcome our newest graduate advisors, Alice Hawkins and Tom Meares.
Alice completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Human, Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge. She has been assigned to the Commission’s wholesale and retail markets team and she is currently working on the electricity networks economic regulatory framework review 2020.
Tom completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Economics from University of Sydney. Tom is also assigned to the retail and wholesale team and is working on the Coordination of generation and transmission investment (COGATI) project considering reforms to the way generators access transmission networks.
“The AEMC’s graduate development program allows people to work on projects that are dealing with complex policy issues in innovative ways,” said AEMC Commissioner Michelle Shepherd.
"The program is valuable to the AEMC as it allows us to have input from some of the brightest young minds on energy policy.”
In March, Joshua Copeland and Mitchell Grande also joined the organisation.
Josh, who is working with the security and reliability team, graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics. Josh has been assigned to assist with the Commission’s reliability work program and has recently been assisting the Reliability Panel on the Australian Energy Regulator’s consultation paper on the values of customer reliability under widespread and long duration outages. Mitchell is working with the networks team and has been working on a metering rule change and will be working on this year’s metering review. He has a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (Honours) from the University of Wollongong.
The Commission’s graduate program offers valuable experience in energy policy, economic analysis and power system transformation. Graduates can work on a variety of rule changes and policy reviews of the electricity and gas markets.
We will run another graduate intake in 2021.
