On 10 November 2010, the Commission published a Report of its Investigation into the Exercise of the LRPP for 2010.

The Report outlines the matters that the Commission has considered in making its decision not to exercise the LRPP in 2010.

The Commission's investigation concluded that current levels of inter-regional congestion are not having a material market impact in the National Electricity Market.  Furthermore, while the Commission considers that the extent of inter-regional congestion may change in the future, the Australian Energy Market Operator and the various Transmission Network Service Providers are progressing a number of projects with the potential to impact on emerging inter-regional transmission constraints.

The Commission is therefore satisfied that these planning processes are likely to deliver efficient inter-regional transmission investment to ensure the long term interests of consumers of electricity. Accordingly, the Commission has decided that there is no need for it to exercise the LRPP in 2010.

The AEMC's publication of its Report and supporting analysis from Sinclair Knight Merz, represents the conclusion of the AEMC's investigation into the exercise of the LRPP for 2010.
