The Reliability Panel (Panel) undertakes an annual market performance review (AMPR) which examines the performance of the National Electricity Market (NEM) in terms of reliability, security and safety of the power system. The Panel’s final report on the review of performance in the 2013-14 financial year was published on 16 July 2015.

In its final report, the Panel found that the reliability of the NEM continued to remain within the reliability standard, as there was no unserved energy (USE) due to reliability events in the 2013-14 financial year. There were also no power system incidents that resulted in interruptions to customer load. There were however, a number of incidents where frequency was outside the operating standards, but these incidents were effectively managed and actions were taken, or are in the process of being completed, to address any issues identified.

The final report includes consideration of the stakeholder submission received in response to the draft report, which was published on 13 May 2015 for public consultation.

Background

The AMPR is a requirement under the National Electricity Rules (NER). The scope of this review is to consider the reliability, security and safety of the NEM in terms of performance against the standards and guidelines determined by the Panel under the NER.

The Panel has been conducting this annual review since 2006. The review considers the performance of the NEM bulk wholesale electricity systems. Performance at the local transmission and distribution level provided by jurisdictional bodies, distributors and transmission network service providers has also been included in the report.

As this is an annual review, the Panel will continue to consider ways in which this work may be carried out to provide more useful and meaningful information to the market.
