The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is retracting its rule change request.

On 12 December 2023, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) received a rule change request from AEMO to amend the National Electricity Rules (NER) to include Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) standing data in the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) register.  

AEMO is retracting its rule change request following targeted engagement with industry and agreement from the interjurisdictional Consumer Energy Resources (CER) working group to pursue a regulatory solution. The CER Roadmap commits to a national regulatory framework for CER in 2026, which was identified as a more suitable solution for collecting EVSE standing data.

AEMO is also pursuing a non-regulatory work program in the short-term to capture other data relevant to EV charging. The non-regulatory work program will include collaboration with industry and governments, with a focus on leveraging existing databases and data sources.
