The AEMC has extended the time to make a final determination and rule concerning compensation for market participants affected by intervention events.

The final determination will now be made by 2 December 2021 to align with the revised timeframe for the Integrating energy storage systems into the NEM rule change, allowing the AEMC to consider the proposed changes together.

The AEMC determined that the two rule changes should be finalised at the same time because AEMO’s response to the draft determination for this rule change raised issues about how the compensation framework applies to energy storage systems.

The interactions between the two rule changes are discussed in more detail in the Intervention Compensation directions paper released on 15 July 2021.
