The AEMC will deliver a draft determination for the Operational security mechanism rule change by 25 August 2022.
The extension of time responds to the complexity and importance of this reform for managing system security during the transition to increasing levels of renewables and batteries.
We are continuing to work with AEMO, the AER and the wider energy sector to investigate design elements of a mechanism that can explicitly value, procure and schedule the delivery of system services when needed. The additional time will allow us to work through the complex issues in greater depth, including with the other market bodies.
This project remains an important priority to progress the ESB’s post 2025 Essential System Services recommendations, providing regulatory and market arrangements to support the stable and secure operation of the power system.
