The WMC Laterals consist of the GGP to Mt Keith Power Station and the GGP to Leinster Power Station laterals connecting to the Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP). Together with the GGP they are owned and operated by the Southern Cross Pipelines Australia Pty Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of the APA Group).
The GGP and the WMC laterals were one of several pipeline assets across Australia which were partly owned by AGL and were transferred to APA in 2000 as part of APA’s initial public offering and listing.
Together with the GGP, the WMC Laterals were constructed in 1996. The GGP to Mt Keith Power Station lateral is 8 km in length and transports gas from the GGP to Mt Keith where the gas is used for power generation. While, the GGP to Leinster Power Station lateral is 5 km in length and transports gas from the GGP to Leinster where the gas is used for power generation.
The WMC Laterals were initially covered pipelines under the Gas Code. However, in July 1999 the relevant minister decided to revoke coverage of the WMC Laterals after an application was made to the NCC and the NCC subsequently made a recommendation that coverage should be revoked.
The WMC Laterals remain uncovered pipelines under the NGL, and are therefore not subject to regulation.
