WA: West Angelas Gas Lateral

The West Angelas Lateral (WAL) comprises two pipelines - the West Angelas Gas Lateral Pipeline (WAGLP) and the West Angelas Petroleum Gas Pipeline Realignment (WAPGPR) - located in the Pilbara region, Western Australia.

The WAL is owned by Mitsuit Iron Ore Development Pty Ltd, Nippon Steel Australia Pty Ltd, Nippon Steel Raw Materials Australia Pty Ltd, North Mining Limited, and Robe River Mining Co Pty Ltd. It is also operated by APT Goldfields Pty Ltd.

The WAGLP is 85.19 km in length, 350 mm in diameter, and delivers a maximum capacity of 62 TJ/day. It was built in 2014 and transports natural gas from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline to the West Angelas Power Station.

The WAPGPR is 9.97 km in length, 355.6 mm in diameter, and delivers a maximum capacity of 1.76 million m³/day. It transports natural gas between different points on the WAGLP.

The WAL is a non-scheme pipeline and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the National Gas Access (WA) Law and Part 23 of the National Gas Rules (WA) (NGR (WA)).

The WA Economic Regulation Authority has granted five-year Category 1 and 2 exemptions under Part 23 of the NGR (WA) for the WAL that apply from 16 November 2018 to 16 November 2023 and 17 November 2023 to 31 December 2028.
