WA: Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline

The Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline are transmission pipelines located in mid-west Western Australia. They were commissioned in 1999.

The Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline are owned by an unincorporated joint venture - the Mid West Pipeline Joint Venture. The joint venture parties are Horizon Power and Mid-West Pipeline Pty Ltd. Both parties have a 50 per cent interest in the pipelines. The Pipelines were previously operated by the APA Group, which had a 50 per cent interest in the pipelines. The other 50 per cent interest was held by Horizon Power.

The Mid West Pipeline is 353 km in length, has a width of 203/178 mm, and a capacity of 10.6 TJ/day.

The Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline is 11 km in length, has a width of 203/178 mm, and a capacity of 4.1 TJ/day.

The Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline transports natural gas from the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (DBNGP) near Geraldton to power generation for mining and minerals processing at Windimurra (Windimurra Vanadium Project), and for supply to Mount Magnet.

The Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline are currently a non-scheme pipelines, and are subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL (WA) and Part 23 of the NGR (WA).

On 20 June 2023, the ERAWA granted a five year Category 3 exemption under Part 23 to the Mid West Pipeline and Mount Magnet Lateral Pipeline.
