WA: Magellan Lateral

The Magellan Lateral (ML) is a transmission pipeline located in Wiluna, Western Australia.

The ML is owned by Redback Pipelines Pty Ltd and operated by APT Goldfields Pty Ltd. APT Goldfields Pty Ltd is a subsidiary of APA Group.

The ML is 38.86 km in length, 88.9 mm in diameter, and has a maximum capacity of 7.9 TJ/day. 

The ML transports natural gas from the offtake facility within the Wiluna Compressor Station compound at KP864 (kilometre point measured from the northern end of the GGT gas pipeline) on the Goldfields Gas Transmission pipeline (GGT), east of Wiluna. The pipeline terminates at the Paroo Station Electricity Generating Power Station, providing gas to the Paroo Station Lead Mine which is located 35 km west of Wiluna and owned by Rosslyn Hill Mining Pty Ltd.

The ML is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the National Gas Access (WA) Law and Part 23 of the National Gas Rules (WA).

The WA Economic Regulation Authority granted Category 1 and 2 exemptions under Part 23 of the NGR WA for the ML that apply from 4 July 2022 to 4 July 2027.
