The Cape Preston Lateral is a transmission pipeline located in the Pilbara region of WA approximately 100km west-south-west of Karratha.
The pipeline runs from the Dampier to Bunbury Pipeline to the Sino Iron Power Station. The pipeline is a single shipper non-scheme pipeline, only 13.5km in length (18" in diameter), and dedicated to servicing the Sino Iron Project's power station near Cape Preston. Throughput volume was about 35.4PJ for the 24 months from 16 May 2016 to 17 May 2018. The Cape Preston Lateral is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 20 June 2023, the ERAWA granted a five-year Category 1 and 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR for the Cape Preston Lateral.
