The Tanami Pipeline is a transmission pipeline in central Northern Territory. The 8-inch pipeline is 440km in length and transports up to 13TJ per day of natural gas to the gas fired power stations at Granites and Dead, which power the Tanami gold in the remote Tanami desert.
The Tanami Pipeline is currently a non-scheme, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.
The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Tanami Pipeline:
- On 26 September 2018, a five year Category 2 and 3 exemptions under Part 23 of the NGR.
- On 18 August 2023, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.
