WA: Beharra Springs Pipeline

WA: Beharra Springs Pipeline

The Beharra Springs Pipeline is a transmission pipeline located in south-west Western Australia. The Beharra Springs pipeline and the associated Beharra Springs gas field development are currently owned by to AWE Limited (33 per cent interest) and Beach Energy Limited (67 per cent interest). The gas plant and the pipeline are operated by Origin.

The pipeline is 1.6 km in length and 168 mm in width, and has a capacity of approximately 35-40 TJ/day. The pipeline connects the Beharra Springs gas plant to the Parmelia Pipeline.

The Beharra Springs Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline system, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Chapter 6A of the NGL and Part 23 of the NGR. On 20 June 2023, the ERAWA granted a five year category 1 and 2 exemption under Part 23 to the Beharra Springs Pipeline.

The pipeline was initially covered under the Gas Code although no access arrangement was proposed by Boral Energy Resources as its original owner. In August 1999, the WA Minister for Energy (being the relevant minister) revoked coverage of the pipeline following the NCC’s recommendation.

The Beharra Springs Pipeline was constructed by Boral Energy Resources (now known as Origin) as part of the Beharra Springs gas field development. Ownership of the pipeline and the gas field development were later sold to AWE and Beach Energy Limited.
