The Colongra Gas Transmission and Storage Pipeline is a lateral transmission pipeline on the central coast of NSW. The pipeline is owned by Jemena (Jemena Colongra Pty Ltd ABN 13 127 533 519).
The Colongra Gas Transmission and Storage Pipeline was designed and built by Jemena in 2009 to deliver gas to Snowy Hydro Limited's 667MW gas turbine facility near the existing Munmorah power station on the Central Coast of NSW. The pipeline not only transports gas to the power station but also stores enough gas to allow the power station to run at full capacity for five hours.
The pipeline includes 4 kilometers of 10 inch feeder pipeline, a 42 inch storage pipeline and a compressor station that increases gas pressure from 3.4MPa to 13MPa and a let-down station. The pipeline is double looped to create nine kilometers of pipeline storage in a three kilometer stretch of land and has a capacity of 43 TJ/day.
The Colongra Gas Transmission and Storage Pipeline is currently a non-scheme pipeline, and is subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under Part 10 of the National Gas Rules (NGR). It was previously subject to the access regime for non-scheme pipelines under the former Part 23 of the NGR, which was replaced by Part 10.
The AER has granted the following exemptions for the Colongra Gas Transmission and Storage Pipeline:
- On 7 December 2017, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR.
- On 30 November 2022, a five year Category 2 exemption under Part 23 of the NGR. Due to reforms to the NGR, the exemption transitioned to a Category 2 exemption under Part 10 of the NGR.
