Overview

On 15 December 2016 the AEMC commenced consultation on a rule change request from the Australian Energy Council (AEC) in relation to the contestability of energy services. The AEMC held a public forum on the rule change request on 25 January 2017. A recording of the AEMC’s presentations is now available.

A consultation paper has been prepared to facilitate public consultation and assist stakeholders to make submissions on the rule change request. Submissions are due by 9 February 2017.

The AEMC has also extended the time for the making of a draft rule determination for this rule change request to 1 September 2017. This extension was necessary given the complexity of the issues raised in the rule change request.

The AEMC is also conducting concurrent consultation on a related rule change request submitted by the COAG Energy Council. The COAG Energy Council’s rule change request also seeks to promote greater contestability for a range of energy services, but proposes different solutions to this rule change request.
